DE<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\nIbuki Island is an impressive testament to human settlement and the interrelationship with nature. Up to 4,000 people lived on this small island exclusively from fishing. Their lives were directly connected to the elements, the creatures and their living conditions. The relationship between these life forms always depends on mutual understanding. The same idea was also explored in old stories such as the fairy tale \u2018The Fisherman and His Wife\u2019 , written by the Romantic poet Philipp Otto Runge. Holzapfel sets the story in a traditional Japanese house where many children once lived. In a stage setting, three universal craft techniques are presented that have timeless significance in both Japan and Germany: dyeing, straw weaving and carpentry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Japanese actress Miho Takayasu narrates the fairy tale in the animated film created by Holzapfel and Moritz Stumm. Like the fairy tale, the installation deals with the relationship between humans and nature. Its cycles, the challenges of human desires, and the limits of material existence. With the realization that these limits are also the place of home, like the house in which the installation takes place, like the island that is home to the people.\u202f<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Holzapfel thus takes up a theme that is as familiar to the fishermen of Ibuki Island as it is to other craftsmen: the relationship and balance between our bodies and the elements. With the idea of playing with light, Holzapfel creates a unified space that incorporates the installation, the history of the venue, and Ibukijima Island itself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Setouchi Triennale is a contemporary art festival held every three years on the islands of the Seto Inland Sea. Launched in 2010, it lasts 100 days and is divided into spring, summer and fall sessions, allowing visitors to enjoy the Setouchi region in different seasons. The Triennale is one of Japan\u2019s foremost international art festivals, attracting about one million people from Japan and overseas. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Site specific works serve as guides for discovering each island and venue, including the scenery, history, culture, lifestyle, local industries, and cuisine. They also serve as a portal for interaction with artists, residents and volunteer supporters. This approach has won the Triennale many ardent fans.
The Triennale has also won international acclaim as a novel approach to tourism, appearing in many well-known magazines and media overseas. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
To present the diverse charms of the Setouchi region and contribute to its revitalization, Setouchi Triennale 2025, the sixth triennial and the first to be held since the end of the COVID-19 global health emergency, will be expanded to include the coastal towns of Shido, Tsuda, Hiketa, and Utazu, bringing the total number of participating areas to 17.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A total of 223 artists are participating, including Christian Boltanski, Jacob Dahlgren, Olafur Eliasson, Olaf Holzapfel, Alicja Kwade, Sigalit Landau, and Pipilotti Rist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Derselbe Gedanke wurde auch in alten Geschichten wie dem M\u00e4rchen \u201eDer Fischer und seine Frau\u201c des romantischen Dichters Philipp Otto Runge thematisiert. Holzapfel siedelt die Geschichte in einem traditionellen japanischen Haus an, in dem einst viele Kinder lebten. Holzapfel greift damit ein Thema auf, das den Fischern der Insel Ibuki ebenso vertraut ist wie anderen Handwerkern: die Beziehung und das Gleichgewicht zwischen unserem K\u00f6rper und den Elementen.\u202f Holzapfel kreiert mit der Idee des Lichtspiels einen einheitlichen Raum, der sowohl die Installation, die Geschichte des Veranstaltungsortes, als auch die Insel Ibukijima selbst aufgreift.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
